Power Line Network Components

About Power Line Network Components

Power line network components use existing electrical power lines as carriers for data communications signals. They have lower bandwidths compared to networks that use dedicated fiber optic or twisted pair carriers. Power line network components transfer electric power from one place to another. Typically, power is sent from a power plant to a substation. Electric power is transmitted through overhead power head transmission lines at a high voltage of 110 KV. In densely populated areas, electricity may be transmitted through underground power transmission lines to maintain power quality.

There are many different types of power line network components. Examples include directional couplers, fixed power attenuators, and power line modems. A directional coupler is a power component used for developing high flatness and directivity on the waveguide band. An attenuator is a power component that is used to lower the amplitude value of the electrical signal passing through a wire. A power line modem can be used in used in residential and commercial applications for transmitting and receiving data through power lines. Other power line network components are also available.
