Specialty Communication Devices

About Specialty Communication Devices

Specialty communication devices use specialized or proprietary interfaces or technologies. There are many different types of products. Examples of specialty communication devices include telephones, cell phones, automated voice answering systems, and phone switchboards. Specialty telephones and specialty cell phones convert voice or other sound signals into a form that can be transmitted to another device that receives and reconverts the waves back into sound. Specialty telephones can be corded or cordless and use analog or digital technologies. Specialty cell phones are cordless, usually digital devices that are specified as dual-band or tri-band to indicate the combination of supported technologies and frequency bands. Specialized or proprietary automated voice answering systems are specialty communication devices used to take messages and provide automated information retrieval requests. They reduce operator error, improve customer service, and allow call center employees to perform other tasks. Specialty switchboards are used for routing telephone calls and adding advanced features to telephone systems. Traditional electromechanical devices have been largely replaced by computer-based applications that reside on web servers, application servers, or personal computers (PCs).

Specialty communication devices include intercoms, radios, handheld electronic devices, and telephone components and accessories. Specialized or proprietary intercoms are specialty communication devices which consist of fixed microphone/speaker units that connect to a central control device. There are two basic types of products: hard wired and wireless. Specialty radios are communications systems that send and/or receive electromagnetic waves. Specialty communication devices such as citizens’ band (CB) radios, walkie-talkies, and handie-talkies are two-way radios that can be used for interpersonal communications. UHF radios and VHF radios are also commonly available. Handheld electronic devices allow users to send and receive text messages, play games, access media files, and perform other activities. Products such as cellular phones, personal digital assistants (PDA), global positioning system (GPS) receivers, and MP3 players are small, lightweight, and designed to be held in one hand during operation. Examples of specialty telephone accessories include cell phone components, phone batteries, cable splitters, and telephone cables. A specialty cell phone component can include the adapter, battery, and all of the electronic elements. A specialty phone battery is a device that produces power.
